Enraged by Wife’s Divorce Filing, Man Used Excavator to Tear Down Family Home with Wife and Daughters Still Inside

 

Butler County, Pennsylvania – A Pennsylvania man is facing multiple criminal charges after authorities say he used a construction excavator to partially demolish his family home while his wife and two daughters were still inside.

The dramatic incident, which unfolded in Butler County, has drawn national attention because of the extraordinary nature of the allegations and the potential danger posed to the family.

"If It's Over, I'll Tear the House Down"

According to investigators, 48-year-old Eric Pierwsza became enraged after learning that his wife had filed for divorce.

Authorities allege that after a night of drinking, Pierwsza made a chilling statement to his wife, reportedly saying:

"If it's over, I'll tear the house down."

Investigators say the threat soon became reality.

According to police, Pierwsza climbed into an excavator and began tearing into sections of the family home, causing extensive structural damage.

Wife and Daughters Were Still Inside

Perhaps the most alarming detail of the incident is that Pierwsza's wife and the couple's two daughters were reportedly still inside the house when the demolition began.

Emergency dispatch recordings reportedly captured the sounds of the excavator striking the home while the terrified family called 911 for help.

Fortunately, authorities say all three family members managed to escape without suffering physical injuries.

Officials have not released the ages of the daughters.

Extensive Structural Damage

Photographs from the scene show significant damage to the rear portion of the house, with walls and parts of the structure torn apart by the heavy machinery.

Although some of the home remained standing after the incident, investigators reportedly determined that the structural damage was so severe that the property may ultimately need to be completely demolished for safety reasons.

Suspect Left the Scene

According to police, after damaging the home, Pierwsza allegedly entered the residence, collected a gym bag, and left the property.

Authorities later located and arrested him in town without further incident.

He was subsequently taken into custody.
