Claire Hobson, a permanent makeup artist from the UK, says she wanted to keep her dog, Patch, close to her even after his death.
"I Didn't Want to Put His Ashes in a Suitcase"
Speaking on ITV's television program This Morning, Hobson explained the emotional decision behind the unusual memorial.
"I was about to go to Dubai to move there," she said. "I was living between countries and I thought, 'I don't want to put his ashes in a suitcase.'"
As she prepared to get a semi-permanent eyeliner tattoo, an idea came to her.
"I thought, people have loved ones' ashes incorporated into body tattoos, so why not have it in my eyeliner?"

Hobson admitted that the idea initially sounded "a bit bonkers," but she approached a fellow makeup artist and close friend, who agreed to help.
According to Hobson, the artist had also recently experienced the loss of a pet and understood the emotional significance of wanting to keep a beloved companion close.
A small amount of Patch's cremated ashes was reportedly mixed with the tattoo pigment before the eyeliner procedure was performed.
The result, Hobson says, is a deeply meaningful tribute that allows her to feel connected to her late dog every day.
"The Purest Form of Love"
Speaking about her bond with Patch, Hobson became emotional.
"Dogs are loyal. They're consistent. They show up every single day and they're happy to see you when you come home," she said.
"It's the purest form of love."

Fortunately for her, she says she still has more of Patch's ashes and plans to include them again whenever she eventually decides to have the eyeliner refreshed.
"He's going to be there for a long time," she said.
